Maulana Wahiduddin Khan is an Islamic scholar who has dedicated his life to Islamic scholarship and teachings in the modern era. He is founder of the Centre for Peace and Spirituality International and India’s Urdu Islamic Institution, the Islamic Centre, which preaches religious awareness, social responsibilities, and peaceful coexistence. An author of over two hundred books in India and abroad, he translated the Quran with commentary into contemporary English, and wrote the Al-Islam Yatahadda (Modern Challenges, which is considered as a standard work on Islam in modern thought). He has received many awards including, the Demiurgus Peace International Award, under the patronage of the former Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev, the Padma Bhushan, an Indian civilian honor, the National Citizens' Award, presented by Mother Teresa, and the Sayyidina Imam Al Hassan Ibn Ali Peace Award and numerous others.
